NEW NOTES as of Tuesday evening - First off, I feel like I should apologize for being sort of out of it today. I didn't realize how tired I was. I promise to get more rest tonight and be back on "my game". I better since I'm presenting a session tomorrow, right? OK - nuff said. I just finished reading all the discussion questions and journal pages - yep, all 61 participants' worth! There are a few who haven't posted the first thing yet - is that because of email issues? We worked that out, didn't we? Wonder if I should pull those people out by themselves a few minutes tomorrow and get them caught up together? Think about it.

I'm going to look at the schedule and make necessary adjustments. If you don't agree, feel free to tell me. I'll listen, I promise! Thanks again for all you're doing. You're the best. :) Bodie

I've made some changes to your wikis. Can you proof all your pages and look for my mistakes. You know me, I always make some!
Look closely at the week's schedule and call or email me with any questions. It's going to be a busy week!
Create a page on your wiki entitled "Planetfesto Ribbon Links". Everyone will be adding a picture to the ribbon and will put their link here. Public Service Announcement Project: Bodie will present an overview of the PSA concept and demonstrate some of the ways the groups can create their own.

8:30	10:30	Presentation of subscriptions to AtomicLearning and Examples of Digital Storytelling projects and resources - Bodie Split groups into 2 for the following presentations, which will last about 40 minutes each: Technology Tool 1: MovieMaker and PhotoStory 3 (LeAnn from Coal City Elementary will present an overview of the two applications and be avaialble for technical assistance throughout the day) Technology Tool 2: Adobe PhotoShop and Digital Camera memory card (Melinda from WWHS will present a very basic introduction and demonstration of the two applications and be available for technical assistance throughout the day)

HOW TO USE A WIKI

d - Adding Pages

WetPaint™ organizes pages hierarchically. The Home page is the first page created and all added pages are subordinate (“sub-pages”) to the home page.

Navigating the Site
A hierarchical list of pages is displayed in the Navigation pane on the left side of the WetPaint™ screen. (If the contents of the Navigation list are not visible, click the triangle ► to the left of the word Navigation to expand the list.)

The Home page is always at the top; click this link to quickly return to the Home page from any page. Within the list, you can view the current page, its parent (containing) page listed above it, and all child (subordinate or sub-page) pages listed below it. In the example below, the currently displayed page (Sweet Scones) is displayed in bold. The parent of this page is the Home page (listed above it). The children (sub-pages) of this page are the two pages listed below it.

Adding a Sub-page

Select the page that will be the parent of the new sub-page. The contents of the parent page should be visible on-screen.
Click add a sub-page at the bottom of the Navigation panel
or click the Add a New Page button in the Page Toolbox.
The Add a Page dialog box will be shown.
Confirm the page location in the displayed breadcrumb trail at the top of the dialog box. Click the Change Location button if necessary to select the correct parent for the new page.
Enter a name for the new page. Each page within a site must have a unique name. Also, pages on the same level of the hierarchy are always displayed in alphabetical order. Use letters or numbers as prefixes if the order of the pages is important.
Enter optional keyword tags. Keyword tags are descriptors for page content. Clicking a keyword in the Navigation by Keyword list in the Navigation pane on the left side of the screen displays a list of pages that reference the selected keyword.
Select the template for page layout (Instructions for using and creating templates can be found in the Appendix.)
Click Add Page.

Once a page has been added, edit it as before.

c - Editing Pages

Wikis facilitate collaboration by allowing users to freely add and edit page content without having to learn any special markup language or syntax.

To edit the contents of a page, click either the EasyEdit button
at the top of the page or the Edit the content link in the Page
Toolbox on the right side of the page.
When the editing window is displayed, the EasyEdit toolbar appears at the top of the screen and contains tools similar to those found in a word processor. The toolbar can be dragged to any position on the page.

Entering Text

Text is entered as in any type of word processing document. As with most types of web based text, it is easier to enter all the text prior to applying formatting. There appears to be no limit to the number of characters or the length of the page created.
Text can be formatted using a variety of tools:
- Use Boldface, Italics and Underline to emphasize text.
- Use Outdent and Indent to move whole paragraphs of text in and out in relationship to the left margin.
- Use Left, Center, and Right alignment to position single or selected lines of text horizontally between the margins.
- Use the SpellCheck button to check the spelling on a page. Suspect words are highlighted and remain highlighted as long as the Check Spelling dialog box is open. Click on a highlighted word to display the Suggestions dialog box from which an alternative spelling can be selected or Ignore can be chosen to leave the word as originally typed. Click Done to close the Spelling Checker.
- Use Cut, Copy, and Paste to move or copy text from one page to another or from another application (e.g., Microsoft Word) to a wiki page. You may use a word processing application to compose page text offline, but any formatting applied to text will be lost when the text is pasted into WetPaint™.
- Use Undo to reverse the last editing action and Redo to repeat the last editing action.
- Use the Normal, Header, and Subhead styles to change the size and color of whole paragraphs. To apply, click (or click and drag) in the text to be modified and select the desired style.
When editing is complete, click Save to accept the changes to the page. An optional Edit Note can be added to document the changes. Click Cancel to void the changes. The Cancel command is not confirmed; it is carried out immediately. (Save as Template is not discussed in this guide.)

Using Hyperlinks

To insert a hyperlink to a web page outside the wiki space, select the page text
that is to be clickable and click the Link button in the EasyEdit toolbar. In the
Add Link dialog box, type or paste the URL of the linked page.

Using Images

To insert an image, click in the text in the approximate location for the picture
and click the Image button in the EasyEdit toolbar. In the Add Image dialog
box, click the Browse button to locate the stored image on the hard drive (linking to an image on the web is not recommended.) In the Name this image: text box, enter an alternate text message that will appear when a viewer mouses over the image on the page. Click Add Image.
In the Edit Image popup box, use the – and + buttons to modify the size of the uploaded image and the layout buttons to position the image on the page. Using the Align Left and Align Right buttons will allow page text to flow around the image. Using Inline with Text forces text above and below the image. Click Done.
To resize, change the layout, or rename a previously inserted image, click on the image to select Image sizes can be manipulated manually by dragging the sizing handles that appear around the border of an image when it is selected.

Using Tables

Tables can be used to create columns for formatting text. Position the
insertion point where the table is to be, then click the Table button in the
EasyEdit toolbar. In the Add Table dialog box, enter the desired number of rows and columns, table width (in pixels or “page” size), layout (for tables that are less than page size), and border style. Click Add Table to insert the table in the page.
To add or remove rows or columns, edit the table’s properties, or delete the table completely, position the insertion point in any one of the table cells and right-click to display the Tables shortcut menu.
Columns in a table are always of equal width; there is no way to modify the width of individual columns. Cells will grow vertically as necessary to hold text. Images can be inserted in tables as in regular text.

Using Video

Videos from YouTube™ and Google™ can be inserted anywhere on a page. Refer to the WetPaint™ demo for instructions on inserting video (available from the Help menu.)

b - Posting Comments and Replies

A comment is a response to or an opinion about a page's content. A reply is a response to another's comment. Each participant is asked to author at least one comment in response to each reflection question posed by the facilitator and reply to at least one comment from a colleague.

The easiest way to post and reply to comments is through the Comments page. To access the Comments page, click the Comments link at the bottom of the page text.

WetPaint Orientation

A wiki (wick'-e) is a a type of web site that allows anyone to add or edit content via an easy to use browser interface. For an excellent discussion of what a wiki is and how a wiki can be used to facilitate group projects, discussion groups, and knowledge repositories read "What is a Wiki (and How to Use One For Your Project") by Tom Stafford and Matt Webb at the O'Reilly Network.

WetPaint™ is a web-based application for developing a wiki. Refer to the pages in this section for instructions on using WetPaint™ to perform the various activities required during the Area of Focus discussion.
